Martin Luther rode for the brand. And he is calling us to do the same.
I don’t know too many men who relish the idea of getting into a confrontation with a group that throws bricks through windows, leaves butchered animals on doorsteps, paints lewd slogans on the opposition’s building, or calls in bomb threats to disrupt the normal activity of those who are willing to stand against them. Focus on the Family experienced all of those things when they supported the 1992 passage of an amendment in Colorado against “protected class” privileges for gays. Dr. James Dobson was the subject of vicious rumors that were pushed without confirmation or hesitation by most of the media.
Why were Jim Dobson and Focus on the Family under attack for taking a moral stand? They were under attack because they had the courage to speak out against a movement that would give homosexuals special rights that no legitimate minority or any other group in this country enjoys. That was the “hate crime” of Focus on the Family.
As for me and my house, we’re standing with Focus. And we’re standing with them for one reason: They’re standing tall.
